Well its been over two month since the last post... To be honest there's nothing to report, there has been no work done to the layout. The fact is I can't seem to decide on an actual design! Since I know it has to come down again whats the point! (I'm having a bad day...)

Construction work Continues

Well the new desk / workbench has been fitted, it's a bit bigger than I wanted even though I've cut it down a little. Never mind, I can work around the extra space it takes up. Because the room is quite small I'm trying to utilize as much operating space as posible. This means that by placing the Fiddle yard on a lower level frees up space on the main board level. Of course this brings up other problems such as getting those loco's down to the lower level...

The shape of things to come

Well, all the baseboards are back and fastened into place. Some minor damage to one of the inner corners but apart from that, things look ready to continue. Most of the boards have been covered in cork except for the one behind the door. The original design was for an end-to-end layout with several features included but as the imagination wanders off in a moment of weakness I decided that I could even with my limited space get something more out of it...

Anatomy of a layout

You could say that my model railway suffers from 'The Grand Old Duke of York' syndrome. That is to say that when it was up it was up, and when it was down it was down but in this case it was neither up nor down!

Let me explain!.. It lives in the spare room, approx 12' 6" x 9' 6", South facing with lots of sun. I'd just built my baseboards from the computer station clockwise around the walls to the door when I had to remove them because we were told that we were having double-glazing installed - (The property is rented). So down they came, and we waited, and waited, and a couple of months later we were told another six weeks.
To cut a long story short, we have now got double glazing, the house is a lot warmer, but we now have been told that we will be getting a new central heating system as well as the house being re-wired. no time frame for this though!

Never mind, I have decided to start building my layout even though I know it will have to be dismantled again in the near future. So with this in mind I will endeavour to make each individual 4' x 2' board modular with respect to dismantling later. This is my first layout, so it's one big learning curve.
